Skylab 2
The Skylab 2 (also known as Skylab I as it was the first crewed Skylab flight) crew wore coveralls with beta cloth emblems on board the USS Ticonderoga after the flight. As no custom patch was created by the crew either, there is effectively no embroidered crew patch for the Skylab 2 mission, although examples of both the AB Emblem and Lion Brothers patches were apparently carried on the flight by Pete Conrad.
In 2008 a patch has been produced based on this design with the input and approval of mission commander Jim McDivitt himself and this patch represents the closest a patch collector can get to a 'crew patch' for the mission. These patches are available exclusively from Astronaut Central.
Other Embroidered Mission Patches
A-B Emblem patch
The AB Emblem patch has the main solar panels overlapped by the smaller panels at the rear. Note that the AB Emblem patch was used by NASA on the certificates of appreciation distributed to employees after the mission.
Lion Brothers patch
The Lion Brothers Skylab I patch has the initials of the crew members ("CKW") embroidered into the background of the design at lower right as a hallmark. Note that a rare plastic backed prototype version of this patch exists.
Hilborn Hamburger patch
This Hilborn Hamburger patch is easily recognized by the 5" size.
Cape Kennedy Medals patch [was SLIUNK1]
This patch from Cape Kennedy Medals has the overlapped solar panels of the AB Emblem design but a different coloration. One easy to spot difference in the detail of the design is the white outline thread around the main solar panels.
3" Embroidered Mission Patches
Dallas Cap & Emblem 3" souvenir patch
This is believed to be the Dallas Cap & Emblem 3" version of the mission patch.
Cape Kennedy Medals patch [was SLIUNK1]
This is the Cape Kennedy Medals 3" version of the mission patch.
